Around 200,000 Dawei people join the protests

Around two hundreds thousands Dawei people have joined the protest after military coup. On Feb 8 which is the eighth day of military coup, protesters from other townships in the region also join Dawei, the capital of Tanintharyi, in the mass protests.

There were several marching which come together as one.

The main march has thousands of people as they march around the city towards Tanintharyi Regional Government office.

Most of them hold placards that say ‘May the military dictatorship fails’, ‘Reject the military coup’ and ‘We want our leader free Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’.They were being blocked by about 20 police to stop them from passing the Regional Government office.

Yet the protesters are determined to pass through.

Protesters chanted “People’s police, people’s police, people’s police” and claps for several times.

The police later removed the barriers and let them through. The protesters marched towards Regional Government office and protested in sitting.

Arzarni Road, one of the main roads in the city, filled with protesters. Some protest leaders gave speeches and then continued marching.

As different marches combined, there were hundreds of thousands protesters in the march.

The marches split in different directions to cover the town and then met at the start point to finish the morning protest.Protests also occurred in Kan Bauk, Laung Lone, Tayetchaung townships and, joined the protests in the city.

The protests concluded peacefully in the afternoon. Youths from Dawei have been leading the protests since the last four days.
